About the Author
James Turnbull manages the CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) atthe National Australia Bank. He is also a member of Linux Australia,including sitting on the Executive Council in 2008, and is currently onthe committee of Linux Users of Victoria.
James has previously worked as an executive manager for IT securityat the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, the CIO of a medical researchfoundation, manager of the architecture group of an outsourcingcompany, and in a number of IT roles in gaming, telecommunications, andgovernment.
He is a contributor to a number of open source projects andregularly speaks on topics related to writing, systems administration,and open source technologies.
He is the author of three other books:
-Pulling Strings with Puppet: Systems Administration Made Easy, about the Ruby-based Puppet configuration management tool.
-Hardening Linux, which focuses on hardening Linux bastionhosts including the base operating system, file systems, firewalls,connections, logging, testing your security and securing a number ofcommon applications including e-mail, FTP and DNS.
-Pro Nagios 2.0 focuses on enterprise management using the Nagios open source tool.
Peter Lieverdink was born in a small Dutch country town in 1973. He owns a pair of clogs, but has never eaten tulips.
On his 22nd birthday, Peter moved to Australia, and after brieflyspending time in a office cubicle he now runs a small business calledCreative Contingencies Pty. Ltd. The business depends on open sourcesoftware for infrastructure and development as well as daily officetasks.
Peter specializes in web application development and helping otherbusinesses implement open source solutions using Linux on both desktopsand servers.
Dennis Matotek works as a systems administrator for Hitwise Pty.Ltd. This business relies heavily on open source technology as thebackbone for its infrastructure systems.
Dennis was the technical reviewer of Pulling Strings with Puppet: Configuration Management Made Easy by James Turnbull (Apress, 2008).
Dennis has many years of experience in systems infrastructuremanagement that covers Microsoft products to IBM iSeries, butpredominately Linux.
